Romanian Minister Says Govt Not Planning To Raise VAT, Flat Tax
Romania’s Development and Tourism Minister Elena Udrea told Pro TV in an interview broadcast Sunday the Government isn’t planning to raise the value added tax or the 16% flat tax.
Udrea said she thinks the 25% cuts in public sector wages and 15% cuts in pensions the Cabinet is to enforce are enough.

"If we don't manage to enforce these measures, it's not us who should consider other measures, but a different government," she said.

Romanian Govt Postpones Payment Of Revolutionaries’ Indemnities For 2012-2014
Romania’s Government decided that social benefits for December 1989 revolutionaries will be postponed and paid in installments during the 2012-2014 interval, but the decision will not affect current payments.
Some 5,000 revolutionaries, whose certificates will be updated in 2010, were supposed to benefit from indemnities this year.

Government spokesperson Ioana Muntean said the decision is meant to maintain the budget balance, adding that the updating of certificates will entail retroactive payments, some of which go as far back as 2004.
