Romanian Economy Ministry May Cut 10-15% Of Staff By Year-End – Sources
The staff of Romania’s Ministry of Economy could be cut by 10-15% by the end of the year and the number of state secretaries may be reduced to three from five, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX Thursday.
"By the end of the year 10-15% of the Ministry's employees may be laid off, while the number of state secretaries will be three," the sources said.

People close to talks in the Government said last week that the Executive will halve spending on phone bills, travels, fuels and office supplies in all its institutions and agencies, in addition to a 20% spending cut on goods and services and a 25% cut in wages and staff numbers.

The Government has also decided in principle to cut the number of state secretaries to two instead of three, except for the ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs and possibly those of Regional Development and Economy, the sources said. Economy Minister Adriean Videanu said at the time he has "no problem" in reducing the ministry's staff by 25%.

Storms, Floods Hit Romania -160 People Displaced, 3 Dead
Romania’s General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) announced Wednesday that 95 towns and villages in 27 counties had been affected by storms and flooding between 6 a.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday, resulting in one death and the evacuation of at least 160 people.
According to a IGSU press release, the storms and flooding affected the counties of Alba, Arad, Arges, Bacau, Braila, Botosani, Brasov, Buzau, Caras-Severin, Cluj, Dambovita, Dolj, Galati, Gorj, Hunedoara, Iasi, Mehedinti, Neamt, Olt, Prahova, Salaj, Sibiu, Suceava, Timis, Tulcea, Valcea and Vrancea.

One person in Alba County and at least 160 people all over the country were evacuated, said the press release.

Romanian Interior Minister Vasile Blaga said the death toll had risen to three by 2.30 p.m. Wednesday, after two people in Cluj County lost their lives.
